HISTORY OF THE RAILROAD

The Delaware and Ulster Railroad (D&U), founded in 1866 and headquartered in Rondout, New York, was a key rail line connecting Kingston on the Hudson River to Oneonta through the Catskill Mountains. It served four counties, linked with six other railroads, and supported tourism, agriculture, and industry. Though small, it was vital to many resorts and local businesses. A preserved section from Highmount to Roxbury is now operated by the Catskill Revitalization Corp. in partnership with Delaware & Ulster Railroad LLC, offering seasonal Catskill Mountain trainrides from Arkville Station.
